What is ATP Monitoring System?
ATP Testing and Monitoring is an advanced technological cleaning verification device ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate which measures the levels of bioburden (number of live bacteria on a surface) within the environment, providing users with an accurate, repeatable and reliable audit process. But what is ATP Testing and Monitoring, How does ATP Testing and Monitoring work?
In as little as 10 minutes users will be provided with a report of all the surfaces monitored along with relevant references to help determine if your cleaning has been effective or not. This laboratory-style technology processes information by measuring the light produced through its reaction with the natural firefly enzyme luciferase using a luminometer, which in English means it captures molecules from a surface or water sample using a swab.
Is ATP Accurate?
I could tell you that ATP Monitoring is proven the most accurate and precise system with facts and figures but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we will bring some life to the office and monitor our surroundings to show you how accurate ATP Monitoring is.
Within our office at Green Heart clean, we used ATP Testing and Monitoring on our most used surface within the building, our main door handle, touched by every one of us and visitors, this surface was bound to have bacteria crawling all over it. Within less than 10 seconds of putting our swab in the machine, we were presented with a report of 467 RLU, this result proved that this door handle most definitely needed a good clean, Using our eco-friendly cleaning and disinfection product to get the report less than 50 to pass the test.
With our Disinfectant and a little bit of elbow grease, we tested the door frame once again to which we passed the ATP Testing and Monitoring with a report of 15 RLU.

How does ATP Monitoring work?
Successfully decontaminating our door handle we decided to test the ATP Testing and Monitoring further by testing the cleanliness of the steering wheel within our cars; for research purposes, of course, we most definitely wanted to get back to work. Since my colleague didn’t fancy the embarrassment of everyone knowing how unhygienic he/she is we will label the cars, car A, car B, and car C.
Starting with a quick swap around the steering wheel without any cleaning we monitored all three cars…
Again, in 10 seconds we received our first report which gave us; Car A – 1,298 RLU, Car B – 250 RLU, Car C – 1,233 RLU With the result of our first report, we can see that Car A and C has a lot of cleaning to do.
Now it’s time for a quick clean using Anti-bacterial Bamboo Wipes.
The excitement was building, who would come out as the best steering wheel wipe downer? We all hoped that our plastic-free wipes made from sustainable bamboo would do a good job of eliminating any bacteria on the steering wheel.
The results are in… Car B now has the cleanest steering wheel out of all 3 cars yet all steering wheels scored under 50 RLU in the test, meaning our Anti Bacterial Bamboo Wipes were extremely effective.
Even though this was a great and meaningful distraction to us all at the office it does prove the accuracy and reliability of ATP Monitoring.
